Show Recap
On the February 13, 2013 broadcast of Decrypted Matrix Radio, Max dove deep into the explosive Christopher Dorner manhunt, the disturbing pattern of LAPD officers shooting innocent civilians, the drone industry lobbying push, President Obama’s secretive cybersecurity executive order, and a critical breakdown of the State of the Union address.
Dorner Manhunt and the LAPD Cabin Fire
The show opened with the dramatic conclusion of the Christopher Dorner manhunt. On February 12, 2013, former LAPD officer Dorner was cornered by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies in a cabin near Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. The cabin caught fire during the standoff, and Dorner’s remains were later confirmed through dental records. Max questioned the official narrative, drawing parallels to the 1993 Waco siege and asking whether the fire was deliberately set to silence Dorner permanently. Dorner had published a lengthy manifesto accusing the LAPD of systemic corruption, racism, and retaliation after he reported a fellow officer for using excessive force on a mentally ill suspect. The media blackout during the final standoff raised serious questions about transparency and accountability in law enforcement operations.
LAPD Shoots Innocent Civilians During Manhunt
Max highlighted the terrifying incidents where LAPD officers, operating in a state of panic during the Dorner manhunt, opened fire on innocent civilians. On February 7, 2013, at least seven LAPD officers fired over 100 rounds into a blue Toyota Tacoma in Torrance, California, striking 71-year-old Emma Hernandez and her 47-year-old daughter Margie Carranza — two newspaper delivery women whose truck did not even match the description of Dorner’s vehicle. Hernandez was shot in the back. The LAPD later paid a $4.2 million settlement. Max characterized these shootings as evidence of a gang mentality within the LAPD, where officers acted as judge, jury, and executioner with zero regard for public safety.
Drone Industry Lobbyists Exploit the Crisis
The show also covered how drone industry lobbyists seized on the Dorner standoff to promote the use of unmanned aircraft in domestic law enforcement. With the FAA under pressure to open American skies to drones, the defense industry wasted no time framing drones as life-saving tools for manhunts and search-and-rescue operations. Max warned that the real agenda was normalizing constant aerial surveillance over American communities, a dramatic expansion of the surveillance state under the cover of public safety.
Obama’s Cybersecurity Executive Order and State of the Union
Just hours before delivering the 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama signed Executive Order 13636 on Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. The order directed the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop a cybersecurity framework in partnership with the private sector and expanded government information sharing with critical infrastructure operators. Max pointed out the irony of an administration that operated in secrecy — placing an embargo on press coverage of the order — while calling for openness and cooperation. The State of the Union address itself was dissected as political theater, with Obama calling for bipartisan action on the economy, gun control, and immigration while expanding executive authority through unilateral orders on cybersecurity and drone warfare.
