Gary McKinnon: The Hacker Who Claimed to Find Alien Evidence in Military Computers

The Hacker Who Infiltrated Military Networks

Gary McKinnon, a 46-year-old British computer administrator, carried out what US prosecutors described as the largest military computer hack ever detected. Between 2001 and 2002, shortly after the September 11 attacks, McKinnon breached 97 US military and NASA computer networks from his home in London.

McKinnon maintained that his motivations were not malicious. He stated that he was searching for suppressed information about extraterrestrial life and advanced energy technologies that he believed the US government was withholding from the public.

Claims of Extraterrestrial Evidence

During his unauthorized access to classified networks, McKinnon claimed he discovered several pieces of evidence pointing to extraterrestrial contact. He reported finding photographs of what appeared to be unidentified spacecraft and referenced a document listing names associated with non-terrestrial officers and fleet-to-fleet transfers. These claims, if accurate, would suggest that elements within the US government possessed knowledge of extraterrestrial contact that was being kept from public disclosure.

US officials disputed McKinnon’s characterization of his actions, stating that he caused nearly one million dollars in damage to military computer systems. Prosecutor Paul McNulty called it the “biggest hack of military computers ever, at least ever detected.”

The Extradition Battle

The United States sought McKinnon’s extradition to face trial on American soil, where he could have faced up to 70 years in prison. The case became a significant diplomatic issue between the UK and the US, dragging on for over a decade.

UK Home Secretary Theresa May ultimately blocked the extradition in October 2012, citing McKinnon’s diagnosis of Asperger syndrome and depression. Medical experts testified that he was at serious risk of self-harm if sent to the United States. British Prime Minister David Cameron had also raised the case directly with President Barack Obama, signaling the political weight the matter carried.

Implications for UFO Disclosure

The McKinnon case sits at the intersection of government secrecy, cybersecurity, and the longstanding debate over whether authorities possess undisclosed evidence of extraterrestrial life. While skeptics point to the lack of independently verified proof from McKinnon’s intrusions, his willingness to risk decades in prison for what he found raises questions about what classified military networks may contain.

Regardless of where one stands on the question of extraterrestrial life, the case highlighted significant vulnerabilities in US military cybersecurity and fueled ongoing public interest in government transparency regarding unidentified aerial phenomena.
