the following pre-recorded political
00:16
program is sponsored by tv for goldwater
00:18
miller on behalf of barry goldwater
00:21
republican candidate for president of
00:23
the united states
00:24
ladies and gentlemen we take pride in
00:26
presenting a thoughtful address
00:28
by ronald reagan mr reagan
00:33
thank you thank you very much
00:41
thank you and good evening the sponsor
00:43
has been identified
00:45
but unlike most television programs the
00:47
performer hasn’t been provided with a
00:49
script
00:50
as a matter of fact i have been
00:51
permitted to choose my own words
00:53
and discuss my own ideas regarding the
00:56
choice that we face in the next few
00:58
weeks
00:59
i have spent most of my life as a
01:01
democrat i recently have seen fit to
01:03
follow another course
01:05
i believe that the issues confronting us
01:07
cross-party lines
01:09
now one side in this campaign has been
01:12
telling us that the issues of this
01:13
election
01:14
are the maintenance of peace and
01:16
prosperity the line has been used we’ve
01:17
never had it so good
01:19
but i have an uncomfortable feeling that
01:21
this prosperity isn’t something on which
01:23
we can base our hopes for the future
01:25
no nation in history has ever survived a
01:27
tax burden that reached a third of its
01:29
national income today 37 cents out of
01:33
every dollar earned in this country is
01:34
the tax collector’s share
01:36
and yet our government continues to
01:37
spend 17 million dollars a day
01:40
more than the government takes in we
01:42
haven’t balanced our budget twenty eight
01:44
out of the last thirty four years
01:46
we’ve raised our debt limit three times
01:48
in the last twelve months
01:50
and now our national debt is one and a
01:52
half times bigger than all
01:54
the combined deaths of all the nations
01:56
of the world
01:57
we have fifteen billion dollars in gold
01:59
in our treasury
02:01
we don’t own an ounce foreign dollar
02:03
claims are twenty seven point three
02:05
billion dollars
02:06
and we’ve just had announced that the
02:08
dollar of 1939 will now purchase
02:10
45 cents in its total value
02:14
as for the peace that we would preserve
02:17
i wonder who among us would like to
02:19
approach the wife or mother
02:21
whose husband or son has died in south
02:23
vietnam and asked them if they think
02:25
this is a peace
02:26
that should be maintained indefinitely
02:28
do they mean peace
02:30
or do they mean we just want to be left
02:32
in peace there can be no real peace
02:35
while one american is dying someplace in
02:37
the world for the rest of us
02:39
we’re at war with the most dangerous
02:41
enemy that has ever faced mankind in his
02:43
long climb from the swamp to the stars
02:46
and it’s been said if we lose that war
02:48
and in so doing lose this way of freedom
02:50
of ours
02:51
history will record with the greatest
02:52
astonishment that those who had the most
02:54
to lose
02:55
did the least to prevent its happening
02:57
well i think it’s time we ask ourselves
02:59
if we still know the freedoms that were
03:01
intended for us by the founding fathers
03:04
not too long ago two friends of mine
03:05
were talking to a cuban refugee
03:07
a businessman who would escape from
03:09
castro and in the midst of his story one
03:11
of my friends turned to the other and
03:12
said we don’t know how lucky we
03:14
are and the cuban stopped and said how
03:16
lucky you
03:17
are i had some place to escape to
03:21
and in that sentence he told us the
03:22
entire story if we lose freedom here
03:25
there’s no place to escape to this is
03:26
the last stand on earth
03:28
and this idea that government is
03:30
beholden to the people that it has no
03:32
other source of power except the
03:33
sovereign people
03:35
is still the newest and the most unique
03:37
idea in all the long history of man’s
03:39
relation to man
03:40
this is the issue of this election
03:43
whether we believe in our capacity for
03:44
self-government or whether we abandon
03:46
the american revolution and confess that
03:48
a little intellectual elite
03:50
in a far distant capital can plan our
03:52
lives for us better than we can plan
03:54
them ourselves
03:55
you and i are told increasingly we have
03:57
to choose between a left or right
03:59
well i’d like to suggest there is no
04:01
such thing as a left or right
04:03
there’s only an up or down
04:06
man’s own old age dream
04:09
the ultimate in individual freedom
04:11
consistent with law and order
04:13
or down to the ant heap of
04:15
totalitarianism
04:17
and regardless of their sincerity their
04:18
humanitarian motives
04:20
those who would trade our freedom for
04:22
security have embarked on this downward
04:24
course
04:26
in this boat harvesting time they use
04:28
terms like the great society
04:30
or as we were told a few days ago by the
04:32
president we must accept a greater
04:34
government activity
04:35
in the affairs of the people but they’ve
04:37
been a little more explicit in the past
04:39
and among themselves and all of the
04:41
things i now will quote have appeared in
04:43
print
04:43
these are not republican accusations for
04:46
example they have voices that say
04:48
the cold war will end through our
04:50
acceptance of a not undemocratic
04:52
socialism
04:54
another voice says the profit motive has
04:55
become outmoded it must be replaced by
04:57
the incentives of the welfare state
05:00
or our traditional system of individual
05:03
freedom is incapable of solving the
05:05
complex problems of the 20th century
05:08
senator fulbright has said at stanford
05:10
university that the constitution is
05:12
outmoded
05:13
he referred to the president as our
05:15
moral teacher and our leader
05:17
and he says he is hobbled in his task by
05:19
the restrictions of power imposed on him
05:22
by this antiquated document he must be
05:25
freed
05:26
so that he can do for us what he knows
05:28
is best
05:30
and senator clark of pennsylvania
05:32
another articulate spokesman defines
05:34
liberalism
05:34
as meeting the material needs of the
05:36
masses through the full power of
05:39
centralized government
05:41
well i for one resent it when a
05:42
representative of the people refers to
05:44
you and me the free men and women of
05:45
this country
05:46
as the masses this is a term we haven’t
05:49
applied to ourselves in america
05:51
but beyond that the full power of
05:53
centralized government
05:55
this was the very thing the founding
05:57
fathers sought to minimize
05:59
they knew that governments don’t control
06:01
things a government can’t control the
06:03
economy without controlling people
06:06
and they know when a government sets out
06:07
to do that it must use
06:09
force and coercion to achieve its
06:10
purpose they also knew those founding
06:13
fathers that
06:14
outside of its legitimate functions
06:16
government does nothing
06:18
as well or as economically as the
06:20
private sector of the economy
06:22
now we have no better example of this
06:24
than government’s involvement in the
06:25
farm economy over the last thirty years
06:28
since nineteen fifty five the cost of
06:30
this program has nearly doubled
06:32
one-fourth of farming in america is
06:34
responsible for 85 percent of the farm
06:36
surplus
06:38
three-fourths of farming is out on the
06:40
free market
06:41
and has known a 21 percent increase in
06:43
the per capita consumption of all its
06:45
produce
06:46
you see that one-fourth of farming
06:48
that’s regulated and controlled by the
06:50
federal government
06:51
in the last three years we’ve spent 43
06:53
dollars in the feed grain program for
06:55
every dollar bushel of corn we don’t
06:57
grow
06:58
senator humphrey last week charged that
07:00
barry goldwater as president would seek
07:02
to eliminate farmers
07:03
he should do his homework a little
07:05
better because he’ll find out that we’ve
07:07
had a decline of five million in the
07:09
farm population
07:10
under these government programs he’ll
07:12
also find that the democratic
07:13
administration has sought to get from
07:15
congress
07:17
extension of the farm program to include
07:19
that three-fourths that is now free
07:21
he’ll find that they’ve also asked for
07:23
the right to imprison farmers who
07:24
wouldn’t keep books as prescribed by the
07:26
federal government
07:27
the secretary of agriculture asked for
07:29
the right
07:31
to seize farms through condemnation and
07:33
resell them to other individuals
07:35
and contained in that same program was a
07:38
provision that would have allowed the
07:39
federal government
07:40
to remove two million farmers from the
07:42
soil
07:43
at the same time there’s been an
07:45
increase in the department of
07:46
agriculture employees there’s now one
07:48
for every 30 farms in the united states
07:52
and still they can’t tell us how 66
07:54
shiploads of grain headed for austria
07:56
disappeared without a trace and billy
07:58
solist has never left shore
08:09
every responsible farmer and farm
08:11
organization has repeatedly asked the
08:12
government to free the farm economy
08:15
but how who are farmers to know what’s
08:16
best for them
08:18
the wheat farmers voted against a wheat
08:20
program the government passed it anyway
08:22
now the price of bread goes up the price
08:24
of wheat to the farmer goes down
08:26
meanwhile back in the city under urban
08:29
renewal the assault on freedom carries
08:31
on
08:33
private property rights so diluted that
08:34
public interest is almost anything a few
08:36
government planners decide it should be
08:39
in a program that takes from the needy
08:40
and gives to the greedy
08:42
we see such spectacles as in cleveland
08:44
ohio a million and a half dollar
08:46
building completed only three years ago
08:48
must be destroyed
08:49
to make way for what government
08:51
officials call a more compatible use of
08:53
the land
08:54
the president tells us he’s now going to
08:56
start building public housing units in
08:58
the thousands we’re here before we’ve
08:59
only built them in the hundreds
09:01
but fha and the veterans administration
09:03
tell us
09:04
they have a hundred and twenty thousand
09:06
housing units they’ve taken back through
09:08
mortgage foreclosure
09:10
for three decades we’ve sought to solve
09:12
the problems of unemployment
09:13
through government planning and the more
09:15
the plans fail the more the planners
09:16
plan
09:17
the latest is the area redevelopment
09:19
agency they’ve just declared rice county
09:21
kansas a depressed area
09:23
rice county kansas has 200 oil wells and
09:26
the 14 000 people there have over 30
09:28
million dollars on deposit in personal
09:30
savings in their banks
09:40
when the government tells you you’re
09:42
depressed lie down and be depressed
09:45
we have so many people who can’t see a
09:47
fat man standing beside a thin one
09:49
without coming to the conclusion the fat
09:50
man got that way by taking advantage of
09:52
the finland
09:53
so they’re going to solve all the
09:55
problems of human misery through
09:57
government and government planning
09:59
well now if government planning and
10:01
welfare had the answer and they’ve had
10:04
almost 30 years of it shouldn’t we
10:06
expect government to read the score to
10:08
us once in a while
10:09
shouldn’t they be telling us about the
10:11
decline each year in the number of
10:13
people
10:13
needing help the reduction in the need
10:15
for public housing
10:17
but the reverse is true each year the
10:19
need grows greater the program grows
10:21
greater
10:22
we were told four years ago that 17
10:25
million people went to bed hungry each
10:27
night
10:27
well that was probably true they were
10:29
all on a diet
10:31
but now we’re told that 9.3 million
10:34
families in this country are poverty
10:35
stricken on the basis of earning less
10:37
than three thousand dollars a year
10:39
welfare spending ten times greater than
10:41
it was in the dark depths of the
10:42
depression
10:44
we’re spending 45 billion dollars on
10:46
welfare
10:47
now do a little arithmetic and you’ll
10:49
find that if we divided the 45 billion
10:51
dollars up equally among those 9 million
10:53
poor families
10:54
we’d be able to give each family 4 600 a
10:57
year
10:58
and this added to their present income
11:00
should eliminate poverty
11:10
direct aid to the poor however is only
11:12
running about 600
11:14
per family it would seem that someplace
11:16
there must be some overhead
11:19
now
11:22
so now we declare war on poverty or you
11:26
too can be a bobby baker
11:29
now do they honestly expect us to
11:31
believe that if we add 1 billion dollars
11:33
to the 45 billion we’re spending
11:35
one more program to the 30 odd we have
11:38
and remember this new program
11:40
doesn’t replace any it just duplicates
11:43
existing programs
11:44
do they believe that poverty is suddenly
11:46
going to disappear by magic
11:48
well in all fairness i should explain
11:50
there is one part of the new program
11:52
that isn’t duplicated this is the youth
11:54
feature
11:55
we’re now going to solve the dropout
11:57
problem juvenile delinquency
11:59
by reinstituting something like the old
12:01
ccc camps
12:03
and we’re going to put our young people
12:04
in these camps but again we do some
12:07
arithmetic and we find that we’re going
12:08
to spend each year
12:10
just on room and board for each young
12:12
person we help
12:13
forty seven hundred dollars a year
12:16
we can send them to harvard for twenty
12:18
seven hundred
12:27
of course don’t get me wrong i’m not
12:29
suggesting harvard is the answer to
12:31
juvenile delinquency
12:38
but seriously what are we doing to those
12:39
we seek to help
12:42
not too long ago a judge called me here
12:44
in los angeles
12:45
he told me that a young woman who’d come
12:47
before him for a divorce
12:49
she had six children was pregnant with
12:51
her seventh under his questioning she
12:52
revealed her husband was a laborer
12:54
earning 250 dollars a month
12:56
she wanted the divorce to get an eighty
12:58
dollar raise she’s eligible for three
13:00
hundred and thirty dollars a month in
13:01
the aid the dependent children program
13:03
she got the idea from two women in her
13:05
neighborhood who’d already done that
13:06
very thing
13:08
yet anytime you and i question the
13:09
schemes of the do-gooders were denounced
13:11
as being against
13:13
their humanitarian goals they say we’re
13:15
always against things we’re never for
13:16
anything
13:17
well the trouble with our liberal
13:19
friends is not that they’re ignorant
13:21
it’s just that they know so much that
13:23
isn’t so now
13:32
we’re for a provision the destitution
13:34
should not follow unemployment by reason
13:36
of old age
13:37
and to that end we’ve accepted social
13:38
security as a step toward meeting the
13:40
problem
13:41
but we’re against those entrusted with
13:43
this program
13:44
when they practice deception regarding
13:46
its fiscal shortcomings
13:48
when they charge that any criticism of
13:50
the program means that we want to end
13:52
payments to those people who depend on
13:53
them for a livelihood
13:55
they’ve called it insurance to us in a
13:57
hundred million pieces of literature
13:59
but then they appeared before the
14:00
supreme court and they testified it was
14:03
a welfare program
14:04
they only used the term insurance to
14:06
sell it to the people
14:08
and they said social security dues are
14:10
attacks for the general use of the
14:12
government
14:12
and the government has used that tax
14:14
there is no fund
14:16
because robert byers the actuarial head
14:18
appeared before a congressional
14:20
committee and admitted
14:22
that social security as of this moment
14:24
is 298 billion dollars in the whole
14:28
but he said there should be no cause for
14:30
worry because as long as they had the
14:32
power to tax
14:33
they could always take away from the
14:35
people whatever they needed to bail them
14:37
out of trouble
14:38
and they’re doing just that a young man
14:41
21 years of age working at an average
14:43
salary
14:44
his social security contribution would
14:47
in the open market buy him an insurance
14:49
policy that would guarantee two hundred
14:50
and twenty dollars a month
14:52
at age sixty five the government
14:54
promises a hundred and twenty seven
14:56
he could live it up until he’s 31 and
14:58
then take out a policy that would pay
15:00
more than social security
15:02
now are we so lacking in business sense
15:04
that we can’t put this program on a
15:06
sound basis
15:07
so that people who do require those
15:09
payments will find they
15:11
can get them when they’re due that the
15:13
cupboard isn’t bare
15:15
barry goldwater thinks we can at the
15:17
same time
15:18
can’t we introduce voluntary features
15:20
that would permit a citizen who can do
15:22
better on his own
15:23
to be excused upon presentation of
15:26
evidence that he had made provision for
15:28
the non-earning years
15:29
should we not allow a widow with
15:31
children to work and not lose the
15:33
benefits supposedly paid for by her
15:35
deceased husband
15:36
shouldn’t you and i be allowed to
15:37
declare who our beneficiaries will be
15:39
under this program which we cannot do
15:42
i think we’re foretelling our senior
15:44
citizens
15:45
that no one in this country should be
15:47
denied medical care because of a lack of
15:48
funds
15:49
but i think we’re against forcing all
15:51
citizens regardless of need into a
15:54
compulsory government program
15:55
especially when we have such examples as
15:57
was announced last week when france
15:59
admitted that their medicare program
16:01
is now bankrupt they’ve come to the end
16:02
of the road in addition
16:05
was barry goldwater so irresponsible
16:07
when he suggested that our government
16:08
give up
16:09
its program of deliberate planned
16:11
inflation
16:12
so that when you do get your social
16:14
security pension
16:15
a dollar will buy a dollar’s worth and
16:17
not 45 cents worth
16:20
i think we’re for an international
16:22
organization where the nations of the
16:24
world can seek peace
16:26
but i think we’re against subordinating
16:28
american interest to an organization
16:29
that has become so structurally unsound
16:32
that today you can muster a two-thirds
16:35
vote
16:35
on the floor of the general assembly
16:37
among nations that represent
16:38
less than 10 percent of the world’s
16:40
population i think we’re against the
16:42
hypocrisy of assailing our allies
16:45
because here and there they cling to a
16:46
colony while we engage in a conspiracy
16:49
of silence and never open our mouths
16:51
about the millions of people enslaved in
16:53
the soviet colonies
16:54
in the satellite nations
17:06
i think we’re for aiding our allies by
17:09
sharing of our material blessings with
17:11
those nations which share in our
17:12
fundamental beliefs
17:14
but we’re against doling out money
17:16
government to government creating
17:17
bureaucracy
17:18
if not socialism all over the world we
17:20
set out to help 19 countries we’re
17:22
helping 107
17:24
we’ve spent 146 billion dollars
17:27
with that money we bought a two million
17:29
dollar yacht for haile selassie
17:31
we bought dress suits for greek
17:33
undertakers extra wives for kenya
17:35
government officials
17:37
we bought a thousand tv sets for a place
17:39
where they have no electricity
17:42
in the last six years 52 nations have
17:44
bought seven
17:45
billion dollars worth of our gold and
17:47
all fifty two are receiving foreign aid
17:49
from this country
17:51
no government ever voluntarily reduces
17:53
itself in size
17:54
so government programs once launched
17:56
never disappear
17:58
actually a government bureau is the
17:59
nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever
18:01
see on this earth
18:08
federal employees federal employees
18:11
number two and a half million
18:13
and federal state and local one out of
18:15
six of the nation’s workforce
18:17
employed by government these
18:19
proliferating bureaus with their
18:20
thousands of regulations have cost us
18:22
many of our constitutional safeguards
18:24
how many of us realize that today
18:26
federal agents can invade
18:28
a man’s property without a warrant they
18:30
can impose a fine without a formal
18:32
hearing let alone a trial by jury
18:34
and they can seize and sell his property
18:36
at auction to enforce the payment of
18:38
that fine
18:39
in chico county arkansas james weir over
18:41
planted his rice allotment the
18:42
government obtained a seventeen thousand
18:44
dollar judgment
18:45
and a u s marshal sold his 960 acre farm
18:49
at auction
18:50
the government said it was necessary as
18:52
a warning to others
18:53
to make the system work
19:02
last february 19th at the university of
19:05
minnesota norman thomas six
19:06
times candidate for president on the
19:08
socialist party ticket said
19:10
if barry goldwater became president he
19:13
would stop the advance of socialism in
19:15
the united states i think that’s exactly
19:17
what he will do
19:30
but as a former democrat i can tell you
19:32
norman thomas isn’t the only man
19:34
who has drawn this parallel to socialism
19:36
with the present administration
19:39
because back in 1936 mr democrat himself
19:42
al smith the great american came before
19:44
the american people
19:45
and charged that the leadership of his
19:47
party was taking the party of jefferson
19:49
jackson and cleveland down the road
19:51
under the banners of marx lenin and
19:53
stalin and he walked away from his party
19:55
and he never returned till the day he
19:56
died
19:57
because to this day the leadership of
19:59
that party has been taking that party
20:01
that honorable party down the road
20:04
in the image of the labor socialist
20:06
party of england
20:07
now it doesn’t require expropriation or
20:09
confiscation of private property or
20:11
business
20:12
to impose socialism on a people what
20:14
does it mean whether you hold the deed
20:17
to the or the title to your business or
20:19
property if the government holds the
20:20
power of life and death
20:22
over that business or property and such
20:24
machinery already exists
20:26
the government can find some charge to
20:27
bring against any concern it chooses to
20:29
prosecute
20:30
every businessman has his own tale of
20:33
harassment
20:34
somewhere a perversion has taken place
20:37
our
20:37
natural unalienable rights are now
20:39
considered to be a dispensation of
20:41
government
20:42
and freedom has never been so fragile so
20:45
close to slipping from our grasp as it
20:46
is at this moment
20:48
our democratic opponents seem unwilling
20:50
to debate these issues
20:52
they want to make you and i believe that
20:54
this is a contest between two men
20:56
that were to choose just between two
20:58
personalities well what of this man that
21:00
they would destroy and
21:02
in destroying they would destroy that
21:04
which he represents the ideas that you
21:06
and i hold dear
21:07
is he the brash and shallow and trigger
21:09
happy man they say he is
21:12
well i’ve been privileged to know him
21:13
when i knew him long before he ever
21:16
dreamed of trying for high office
21:18
and i can tell you personally i’ve never
21:20
known a man in my life i believed so
21:22
incapable of doing a dishonest or
21:28
dishonorable
21:37
this is a man who in his own business
21:39
before he entered politics instituted a
21:41
profit-sharing plan before unions had
21:43
ever thought of it
21:44
he put in health and medical insurance
21:46
for all his employees
21:47
he took fifty percent of the profits
21:49
before taxes and set up a retirement
21:51
program a pension plan for all his
21:53
employees
21:54
he sent monthly checks for life to an
21:56
employee who was ill and couldn’t work
21:58
he provides nursing care for the
22:00
children of mothers who work in the
22:01
stores
22:03
when mexico was ravaged by the floods in
22:05
the rio grande he climbed in his
22:07
airplane and flew mexico medicine and
22:09
supplies down there
22:10
an ex-gi told me how he met him it was
22:13
the week before christmas during the
22:15
korean war
22:16
and he was at the los angeles airport
22:18
trying to get a ride home to arizona for
22:20
christmas
22:21
and he said that a lot of servicemen
22:23
there and no seats available on the
22:25
planes
22:26
and then a voice came over the
22:27
loudspeaker and said any men in uniform
22:30
wanting a ride to arizona go to runway
22:32
such and such
22:33
and they went down there there was a
22:35
fella named barry goldwater sitting in
22:36
his plane
22:37
every day in those weeks before
22:39
christmas all day long he’d load up the
22:41
plane fly it to arizona fly them to
22:43
their homes fly back over to get another
22:45
load
22:46
during the hectic split-second timing of
22:49
a campaign this is a man who took time
22:51
out to sit beside an old friend who was
22:53
dying of cancer
22:54
his campaign managers were
22:55
understandably impatient
22:57
but he said there aren’t many left to
22:59
care what happens to her
23:01
i’d like her to know i care this is a
23:04
man who said to his nineteen-year-old
23:06
son
23:06
there is no foundation like the rock of
23:08
honesty and fairness
23:10
and when you begin to build your life on
23:12
that rock with the cement of the faith
23:14
in god that you have
23:16
then you have a real start
23:19
this is not a man who could carelessly
23:21
send other people’s sons to war
23:23
and that is the issue of this campaign
23:25
that makes all the other problems i’ve
23:27
discussed
23:28
academic unless we realize we’re in a
23:31
war that must be won
23:33
those who would trade our freedom for
23:34
the soup kitchen of the welfare state
23:36
have told us they have a utopian
23:38
solution of peace without victory they
23:39
call their policy accommodation
23:42
and they say if we’ll only avoid any
23:43
direct confrontation with the enemy
23:45
he’ll
23:46
forget his evil ways and learn to love
23:47
us all who oppose them
23:50
are indicted as war mongers they say we
23:53
offer simple answers to complex problems
23:55
but perhaps there is a simple answer not
23:58
an easy answer
23:59
but simple if you and i have the courage
24:02
to tell our elected officials
24:04
that we want our national policy based
24:06
on what we know in our hearts is morally
24:08
right
24:08
we cannot buy our security our freedom
24:11
from the threat of the bomb
24:14
by committing an immorality so great
24:17
as saying to a billion human beings now
24:19
enslaved behind the iron curtain give up
24:21
your dreams of freedom
24:22
because to save our own skins we’re
24:24
willing to make a deal with your slave
24:26
masters
24:27
alexander hamilton said a nation which
24:29
can prefer disgrace to danger
24:31
is prepared for a master and deserves
24:34
one
24:35
now let’s set the record straight
24:36
there’s no argument over the choice
24:38
between peace and war
24:40
but there’s only one guaranteed way you
24:42
can have peace and you can have it in
24:44
the next second
24:45
surrender admittedly there’s a risk in
24:48
any course we follow other than this but
24:49
every lesson of history tells us
24:52
that the greater risk lies in
24:53
appeasement and this is the specter our
24:55
well-meaning liberal friends refuse to
24:57
face
24:58
that their policy of accommodation is
25:00
appeasement
25:02
and it gives no choice between peace and
25:04
war only between fight or surrender
25:07
if we continue to accommodate continue
25:09
to back and retreat
25:11
eventually we have to face the final
25:12
demand the ultimatum
25:14
and what then when nikita khrushchev has
25:17
told his people he knows what our answer
25:19
will be
25:20
he has told them that we’re retreating
25:22
under the pressure of the cold war and
25:24
some day
25:25
when the time comes to deliver the final
25:27
ultimate of our surrender will be
25:29
voluntary because by that time
25:31
we will have been weakened from within
25:33
spiritually morally and economically
25:35
he believes this because from our side
25:37
he’s heard voices pleading for peace at
25:39
any price
25:40
or better read than dead or as one
25:43
commentator put it he’d rather live on
25:44
his knees than die in his feet
25:46
and therein lies the road to war because
25:49
those voices don’t speak for the rest of
25:51
us
25:52
you and i know and do not believe that
25:54
life is so dear and peace so sweet has
25:56
to be purchased at the price of chains
25:58
and slavery
25:59
if nothing in life is worth dying for
26:01
when did this begin
26:03
just in the face of this enemy or should
26:06
moses have told the children of israel
26:07
to live in slavery under the pharaohs
26:10
should christ have refused the cross
26:13
should the patriots at concord bridge
26:14
have thrown down their guns and refused
26:16
to fire the shot heard round the world
26:19
the martyrs of history were not fools
26:21
and our honored dead
26:22
who gave their lives to stop the advance
26:24
of the nazis didn’t die in vain
26:27
where then is the road to peace well
26:30
it’s a simple answer after all
26:32
you and i have the courage to say to our
26:35
enemies there is a price we will not pay
26:37
there is a point beyond which they must
26:39
not advance
26:53
and this this is the meaning
26:57
in the phrase of barry goldwater peace
26:59
through strength
27:00
winston churchill said the destiny of
27:02
man is not measured by material
27:04
computations when great forces around
27:07
the move in the world we learn we’re
27:08
spirits not animals
27:10
and he said there’s something going on
27:11
in time and space and beyond time and
27:13
space
27:14
which whether we like it or not spells
27:16
duty
27:17
you and i have a rendezvous with destiny
27:20
we’ll preserve
27:21
for our children this the last best hope
27:23
of man on earth
27:25
or we’ll sentence them to take the last
27:26
step into a thousand years of darkness
27:29
we will keep in mind and remember that
27:31
barry goldwater has
27:32
faith in us he has faith that you and i
27:35

27:37

The Reagan Assassination Attempt was a HIT, not Hinckley! George Bush ordered the hit on Reagan, and it was carried out with professional precision. It just didn’t WORK! Reagan was supposed to DIE that day, but didn’t.

Media Ignores Shooting Stopped by Law-Abiding Gun Owner

Media Ignores Shooting Stopped by Law-Abiding Gun Owner

armed-woman

At approximately 9:25 p.m. on Sunday night, December 16, just two days after the horrific shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, Jesus Manuel Garcia, age 19, entered the China Garden restaurant across the mall from the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater complex in San Antonio, Texas, looking for his ex-girlfriend.

Angered that she had just broken up with him, he sent her a text message saying that he planned to go to the restaurant where she worked and “shoot somebody.”

Before she could warn patrons at the restaurant Garcia entered and started shooting.

One bullet slightly wounded one patron while others scattered out the exit doors and headed for the safety of the theater lobby across the mall. Garcia chased them and continued shooting.

This got the attention of an armed off-duty law-enforcement officer who was working at the theater, Bexar County sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Castellano, who chased Garcia to the back of the theater where he ducked into the men’s room.

When he emerged, Castellano shot him four times which immediately and effectively ended the threat. Garcia was handcuffed with the help of another off-duty officer and taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

He was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bail was set at $1 million.

In reporting the incident, local news recalled the Aurora, Colorado, theater attack last July. Hollie O’Connor, who covered the story for mysanantonio.com, said:

“The shooting immediately sparked fears of a mass slaying like the one in July that killed 12 people and injured 58 at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.” She included a quote from one Cassandra Castillo, the mother of the theater’s projectionist, who was worried about her son’s safety in the incident. Said Castillo, “It brings back memories of the other theater shooting and the elementary school shooting. You think only the worst.”

But the national media ignored this story, even though the shooting occurred just two days after the Newtown shooting. It wasn’t just a case that (thankfully) no one was killed in the San Antonio incident.

Very likely, no one was killed because of the timely intervention of the armed off-duty officer. If the media were honestly looking for solutions to gun violence, they should have jumped on the San Antonio to show the difference a good person with a gun can make.

But they didn’t, apparently because it does not fit the narrative that the mainstream media promote — that is, that guns cause violence rather than prevent it.

In their coverage of the Aurora theater tragedy, the media made much of the weaponry used by James Holmes and his ability to purchase his weapons and his body armor and ammunition online without difficulty. The coverage pointed to the horrors of Holmes’ “assault” weapons as the cause of the tragedy while ignoring that the theater was a “gun-free zone.”

No suggestion was ever made that the gun-free zone mandated by the theater made it an attractive target for Holmes because he knew he would meet no resistance.

Though they gave the Aurora theater shooting mega-publicity and spun it in a way that meshed with their anti-gun agenda, the major media almost completely ignored another Aurora shooting that occurred last April.

In the little-reported shooting, 29-year-old Kiarron Parker, after killing his first victim outside an Aurora church, immediately encountered armed resistance from a churchgoer who killed him before he could take any more innocent lives.

The San Antonio theater shooting was neutralized by armed resistance before anyone was killed. The off-duty officer recognized the threat and was trained to meet it and she did — so successfully in fact that the city gave her a medal for her actions.

When Wayne LaPierre, executive director of the National Rifle Association, suggested that potential threats be met with armed resistance in schools so that future massacres can be avoided, the media just scoffed, quoting various gun-control advocates that the last thing needed in schools is more guns.

It widely disseminated President Obama’s comment that he is “skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools … that that somehow is going to solve our problem.”

The April Aurora church shooting and the recent San Antonio theater shooting should be more than enough to persuade all but the most hardened and determined enemies of the Second Amendment that the best thing is for more people to be armed and enabled to resist threats like these, rather than fewer. But the media aren’t listening.

Those incidents don’t fit the narrative.

List Of Top 10 Stories Underreported By The Mainstream Media

List Of Top 10 Stories Underreported By The Mainstream Media

“The restructuring of media in the United States is creating forms of censorship that are as potentially damaging as overt censorship.”

“Media corporations have been undergoing a massive merging process that is realigning our sources of information in America,”

The 11 largest or most influential media corporations in the United StatesGeneral Electric Company (NBC), Viacom Inc. (cable), The Walt Disney Company (ABC), Time Warner Inc.(CNN), Westinghouse Electric Corporation (CBS), The News Corporation Ltd. (Fox), Gannett Co. Inc., Knight-Ridder Inc., New York Times Co., Washington Post Co. and the Times Mirror Co. – represent the interests of corporate America, and that the media elite are the watchdogs of acceptable ideological messages, the parameters of news and information content and the general use of media resources. Your Mainstream Media is manipulating the news you are allowed to see.

Project Censored has been documenting inadequate media coverage of crucial stories since it began in 1967 at Sonoma State University.

Each year, the group considers hundreds of news stories submitted by readers, evaluating their merits. Students search Lexis Nexis and other databases to see if the stories were underreported, and if so, the stories are fact-checked by professors and experts in relevant fields.

.” Project Censored Director Mickey Huff told us the idea was to show how various undercovered stories fit together into an alternative narrative, not to say that one story was more censored than another.

Here’s Project Censored’s Top 10 list for 2013:

PCensored_art_1.jpg

1. Signs of an emerging police state

President George W. Bush is remembered largely for his role in curbing civil liberties in the name of his “war on terror.” But it’s President Obama who signed the 2012 NDAA, including its clause allowing for indefinite detention without trial for terrorism suspects.

Obama promised that “my administration will interpret them to avoid the constitutional conflict” — leaving us adrift if and when the next administration chooses to interpret them otherwise.

Another law of concern is the National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order that Obama issued in March 2012. That order authorizes the president, “in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements.”

The president is to be advised on this course of action by “the National Security Council and Homeland Security Council, in conjunction with the National Economic Council.” Journalist Chris Hedges, along with co-plaintiffs including Noam Chomsky and Daniel Ellsberg, won a case challenging the NDAA’s indefinite detention clause on Sept. 1, when a federal judge blocked its enforcement, but her ruling was overturned on Oct. 3, so the clause is back.

People who get their information exclusively from Mainstream Media sources may be surprised at the lack of enthusiasm on the left for President Barack Obama in this crucial election.

But that’s probably because they weren’t exposed to the full online furor sparked by Obama’s continuation of his predecessor’s (George Bush) overreaching approach to national security, such as Obama signing the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, which allows the indefinite detention of those accused of supporting terrorism, even U.S. citizens.

2. Oceans in peril

Big banks aren’t the only entities that our country has deemed “too big to fail.” But our oceans won’t be getting a bailout anytime soon, and their collapse could compromise life itself. In a haunting article highlighted by Project Censored, Mother Jones reporter Julia Whitty paints a tenuous seascape — overfished, acidified, warming — and describes how the destruction of the ocean’s complex ecosystems jeopardizes the entire planet, not just the 70 percent that is water.

Whitty compares ocean acidification, caused by global warming, to acidification that was one of the causes of the “Great Dying,” a mass extinction 252 million years ago.

Life on Earth took 30 million years to recover. In a more hopeful story, a study of 14 protected and 18 non-protected ecosystems in the Mediterranean Sea showed dangerous levels of biomass depletion.

But it also showed that the marine reserves were well-enforced, with five to 10 times larger fish populations than in unprotected areas. This encourages establishment and maintenance of more reserves.

3. U.S. deaths from Fukushima

A plume of toxic fallout floated to the U.S. after Japan’s tragic Fukushima nuclear disaster on March 11, 2011. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found radiation levels in air, water and milk that were hundreds of times higher than normal across the United States.

One month later, the EPA announced that radiation levels had declined, and they would cease testing. But after making a Freedom of Information Act request, journalist Lucas Hixson published emails revealing that on March 24, 2011, the task of collecting nuclear data had been handed off from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to the Nuclear Energy Institute, a nuclear industry lobbying group.

And in one study that got little attention, scientists Joseph Mangano and Jeanette Sherman found that in the period following the Fukushima meltdowns, 14,000 more deaths than average were reported in the U.S., mostly among infants. Later, Mangono and Sherman updated the number to 22,000.

4. FBI agents responsible for terrorist plots

We know that FBI agents go into communities such as mosques, both undercover and in the guise of building relationships, quietly gathering information about individuals.

This is part of an approach to finding what the FBI now considers the most likely kind of terrorists, “lone wolves.” Its strategy: “seeking to identify those disgruntled few who might participate in a plot given the means and the opportunity. And then, in case after case, the government provides the plot, the means, and the opportunity,” writes Mother Jones journalist Trevor Aaronsen.

The publication, along with the Investigative Reporting Program at the University of California-Berkeley, examined the results of this strategy, 508 cases classified as terrorism-related that have come before the U.S. Department of Justice since the 9/11 terrorist attacks of 2001. In 243 of these cases, an informant was involved; in 49 cases, an informant actually led the plot.

And “with three exceptions, all of the high-profile domestic terror plots of the last decade were actually FBI stings.” facilitated by the F.B.I., whose undercover agents and informers posed as terrorists offering a dummy missile, fake C-4 explosives, a disarmed suicide vest and rudimentary training. Suspects naïvely played their parts until they were arrested.

5. Federal Reserve loaned trillions to major banks

The Federal Reserve, the U.S.’s quasi-private central bank, was audited for the first time in its history this year. The audit report states, “From late 2007 through mid-2010, Reserve Banks provided more than a trillion dollars … in emergency loans to the financial sector to address strains in credit markets and to avert failures of individual institutions believed to be a threat to the stability of the financial system.” These loans had significantly less interest and fewer conditions than the high-profile TARP bailouts, and were rife with conflicts of interest. Some examples: the CEO of JP Morgan Chase served as a board member of the New York Federal Reserve at the same time that his bank received more than $390 billion in financial assistance from the Fed. William Dudley, who is now the New York Federal Reserve president, was granted a conflict of interest waiver to let him keep investments in AIG and General Electric at the same time the companies were given bailout funds. The audit was restricted to Federal Reserve lending during the financial crisis. On July 25, 2012, a bill to audit the Fed again, with fewer limitations, authored by Rep. Ron Paul, passed the House of Representatives. H.R. 459 was expected to die in the Senate, but the movement behind Paul and his calls to hold the Fed accountable, or abolish it altogether, seem to be growing.

6. Small network of corporations run the global economy

Reporting on a study by researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich didn’t make the rounds nearly enough, according to Censored 2013. They found that, of 43,060 transnational companies, 147 control 40 percent of total global wealth. The researchers also built a model visually demonstrating how the connections between companies — what it calls the “super entity” — works. Some have criticized the study, saying control of assets doesn’t equate to ownership. True, but as we clearly saw in the 2008 financial collapse, corporations are capable of mismanaging assets in their control to the detriment of their actual owners. And a largely unregulated super entity like this is vulnerable to global collapse.

7. The International Year of Cooperative

Can something really be censored when it’s straight from the United Nations? According to Project Censored evaluators, the corporate media underreported the U.N. declaring 2012 to be the International Year of the Cooperative, based on the co-op business model’s stunning growth. The U.N. found that, in 2012, 1 billion people worldwide are co-op member-owners, or one in five adults over age 15. The largest is Spain’s Mondragon Corporation, with more than 80,000 member-owners. The U.N. predicts that by 2025, worker-owned co-ops will be the world’s fastest growing business model. Worker-owned cooperatives provide for equitable distribution of wealth, genuine connection to the workplace, and, just maybe, a brighter future for our planet.

8. NATO war crimes in Libya

In January 2012, the BBC “revealed” how British Special Forces agents joined and “blended in” with rebels in Libya to help topple dictator Muammar Gadaffi, a story that alternative media sources had reported a year earlier. NATO admits to bombing a pipe factory in the Libyan city of Brega that was key to the water supply system that brought tap water to 70 percent of Libyans, saying that Gadaffi was storing weapons in the factory. In Censored 2013, writer James F. Tracy makes the point that historical relations between the U.S. and Libya were left out of mainstream news coverage of the NATO campaign; “background knowledge and historical context confirming Al-Qaeda and Western involvement in the destabilization of the Gadaffi regime are also essential for making sense of corporate news narratives depicting the Libyan operation as a popular ‘uprising.’”

9. Prison slavery in the U.S.

On its website, the UNICOR manufacturing corporation proudly proclaims that its products are “made in America.” That’s true, but they’re made in places in the U.S. where labor laws don’t apply, with workers often paid just 23 cents an hour to be exposed to toxic materials with no legal recourse. These places are U.S. prisons. Slavery conditions in prisons aren’t exactly news.

It’s literally written into the Constitution; the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery, outlaws “slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” But the articles highlighted by Project Censored this year reveal the current state of prison slavery industries, and its ties to war.

The majority of products manufactured by inmates are contracted to the Department of Defense. Inmates make complex parts for missile systems, battleship anti-aircraft guns and landmine sweepers, as well as night-vision goggles, body army and camouflage uniforms.

Of course, this is happening in the context of record high imprisonment in the U.S., where grossly disproportionate numbers of African Americans and Latinos are imprisoned, and can’t vote even after they’re freed. As psychologist Elliot D. Cohen puts it in this year’s book: “This system of slavery, like that which existed in this country before the Civil War, is also racist, as more than 60 percent of U.S. prisoners are people of color.”

10. H.R. 347 criminalizes protest

H.R. 347, sometimes called the “criminalizing protest” or “anti-Occupy” bill, made some headlines. But concerned lawyers and other citizens worry that it could have disastrous effects for the First Amendment right to protest. Officially called the Federal Restricted Grounds Improvement Act, the law makes it a felony to “knowingly” enter a zone restricted under the law, or engage in “disorderly or disruptive” conduct in or near the zones.

The restricted zones include anywhere the Secret Service may be — places such as the White House, areas hosting events deemed “National Special Security Events,” or anywhere visited by the president, vice president and their immediate families; former presidents, vice presidents and certain family members; certain foreign dignitaries; major presidential and vice presidential candidates (within 120 days of an election); and other individuals as designated by a presidential executive order.

These people could be anywhere, and NSSEs have notoriously included the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Super Bowls and the Academy Awards. So far, it seems the only time H.R. 347 has kicked in is with George Clooney’s high-profile arrest outside the Sudanese embassy.

Clooney ultimately was not detained without trial — information that would be almost impossible to censor — but what about the rest of us who exist outside of the mainstream media’s spotlight?

Conspiracy Theorists Deserve An Apology

Conspiracy Theorists Deserve An Apology

The world must apologize to 9/11 truth-tellers.

The reason why there is so much hate and scorn for 9/11 truth activists is because they are right and consistent. The destruction of the 9/11 myth and war on terror ideology is unbearable for the children who are emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically attached to the U.S. government and the Israeli government. They are under the delusion that these evil governments actually care about them, their security, and their future.

The mature men and women of America and the West are waking up and confronting the lies of 9/11 and 7/7. And this political awakening is not unique to America and Western civilization. There is a global political and spiritual awakening happening. All totalitarian regimes in the world will fail in hijacking history and they will fall into ruin. The state terrorists in Washington, London, and Tel Aviv have already lost the battle for history and the souls of mankind.

Alternative accounts of history and reality under totalitarian regimes have always been denounced by regime political mouthpieces as crazy and conspiratorial. And they always failed because truth and history were not on their side. The crazy and the conspiratorial were proven right in the end. This is what history shows, and especially the history of the demonic 20th century. So we should have hope and continue to speak the truth about 9/11 to wake up as many people as possible before the U.S. and Israeli governments blow up the whole world.

II. Unthinking and Regressive: Think Progress Attacks 9/11 Truth, Drudge Report, And Infowars

The political mouthpiece of the Obama administration called ‘Think Progress’ tried to shame and belittle Drudge Report for highlighting Infowars stories. Paul Joseph Watson writes in his article, “Obama Front Group Attacks Drudge For Linking To Infowars”:

“Think Progress is a little more than a PR firm for the Obama administration. No wonder they are so terrified that thanks to traffic from Drudge, the likes of Infowars and World Net Daily have grown to become two of the most visible anti-Obama news outlets on the web.

Think Progress claims it is upset that Drudge is promoting what they call “conspiracy theories,” but in reality the root of the anger is that Drudge is providing a platform for some of the Obama administration’s most ardent critics.”

Think Progress is not worth talking about. It is an irrelevant thought-control political operation. Their reporters defend myths and fallacies while putting down truth-tellers as conspiracy theorists. What they are doing is not only unjust but just plain stupid. They are embarrassing themselves. It is actually very sad.

Truth is more powerful than totalitarian propaganda. The mainstreaming of the 9/11 truth movement is unstoppable. 9/11 truth deniers should rejoin reality and admit that it is wrong to defend the official conspiracy theory that was spread by the Bush administration and Israeli government quickly after the traumatic events.

III. The Religious Nature of The 9/11 Deception and Propaganda

Author and Christian theologian David Ray Griffin explained why the belief in the official conspiracy theory of 9/11 is religious in nature in his lecture in October 2007 called, “9-11 and Nationalistic Faith.” Griffin was recently interviewed by Jan Frel of AlterNet in an article called, “David Ray Griffin: How a Retired Theologian Became a High-Priest of the 9/11 Truth Movement.” Describing Dr. Griffin as a “High-Priest,” suggesting that the 9/11 truth movement is somehow a new age mystery cult, is really aiming low.

9/11 truth has nothing to do with religion or priests. Scientific facts are the basis of the movement. Architects, engineers, chemists, scientists, and university professors are the leading spokespeople. Religious figures like Dr. Griffin have contributed great wisdom and understanding but to imply that the 9/11 truth movement is led by “priests” is a lie.

Priests are nowhere to be found in the 9/11 truth movement and that’s okay because they are not needed. They are too busy defending evil empires on the pulpit and sacrificing moral principles for temporary power. Their days as the rulers of the spiritual life of Western civilization have come and gone.

Dr. Griffin is a noble exception, but, in general, Christianity has proven to be useless, corrupt, stupid, blind, and power-driven. The same is true for every other moronic religion that makes individuals submit their heart and soul to a corrupt clergy. The majority of Christians are too obsessed about the second coming and the holiness of Israel to really understand that 9/11 was an inside job committed by the occult elite in America and Israel. They don’t want to admit that the criminal wars in the Middle East have nothing to do with defending the security of USrael.

What do priests and religious idiots offer humanity and the world? Nothing. They are absent in the battle for souls and the battle for freedom because they are corrupt, blind, and stupid. Expecting Christians to fight the totalitarian state and liberate America is laughable. I’m generalizing here, but Christians, Muslims, and religious Jews are the most tyrannical, greedy, hypocritical, hateful, soulless, and ungrateful people in the world. They want to have a monopoly on the human soul and human mind. What maniacs! And the totalitarian priests who head the CIA and Mossad are just as crazy and demented because they also want to monopolize the thoughts of citizens and control the growth of society.

The role of blind religious faith in preventing people from seeing the truth about 9/11 is big. American Christians, who have bought USrael’s propaganda and blindly accept the official 9/11 story, feel no shame in calling for the destruction of Iran and the Muslim world. They make me sick. They don’t realize that they’re bringing destruction upon themselves by calling for the destruction of other nations and civilizations. As they say, what goes around comes around. If warmongering American Christians want death and destruction so much then they will get it in plenty, except the fires of hell won’t burn in the Middle East alone, but in America as well.

IV. Conspiracy Theorists And 9/11 Truthers Deserve An Apology

Who is trying to stop World War III and wake the West up from its sleep? Progressives? No. Liberals? No. Conservatives? No. Christians? No. Journalists? No. They all believe in the official 9/11 deception, which is the ideological foundation that justifies USrael’s aggressive wars in the Middle East.

9/11 truth-tellers, the “conspiracy theorists,” have tried to wake up humanity in order to stop the USraeli government from starting the catastrophe of world war three. And for their efforts they have been slandered and smeared in the press. But the 9/11 truth movement still continues to grow by the day.

There is a simple reason why the rise of 9/11 truth cannot be contained by the USraeli government, and it is this: the age of slandering and smearing is over. Belittling people by calling them mentally ill conspiracy theorists and truthers is not working anymore. We embrace these terms. We are proud of being called conspiracy theorists because it means we’re thinking.

Slandering and smearing Infowars and other alternative news websites is futile. It is a waste of time. Censorship, disinformation, and propaganda are failing. The global free market and global civil society have spoken. People want the news, not smears; truth, not lies; facts, not totalitarian propaganda; freedom, not tyranny; peace, not war.

USA #1? 40 Embarrassing Things That America Is The Best In The World At

USA #1? 40 Embarrassing Things That America Is The Best In The World At

Is the USA still #1?  Well, there are many things that America is still the best in the world at, but unfortunately a lot of those categories are nothing to be proud of.  Once upon a time the United States was the greatest nation on earth, but now we are a nation that is in a horrific state of decline.

Just consider a few of the embarrassing things that America leads the world in: obesity, crime, divorce, teen pregnancy, child abuse deaths and government debt.  The statistics that you are about to read below are incredibly disturbing.  Most people that write these kinds of articles about the decline of America hate this country.  But that is not the case with me.  I was born and raised in America and I love this nation deeply.  It is time to realize that we will never be able to start fixing our problems until we take a really good look in the mirror and realize just how far we have fallen.  America is not the country that it once was.  America is a complete and total mess and just “tweaking” a few things here and there is not going to return this nation to its former glory.  We have forgotten the things that once made us great, and if we do not return to them we will continue to fall apart as a nation.

With that being said, the following are 40 embarrassing things that America is the best in the world at….

#1 America has the highest incarceration rate and the largest total prison population in the entire world by a good margin.

#2 There are more car thefts in the United States than anywhere else in the world by far.

#3 Of all the major industrialized nations, America is the most obese.  Mexico is #2.

#4 The average American drinks more than 600 sodas a year – the most in the world.

#5 U.S. corporations sell more fast food and more soda than anyone else in the world by a wide margin.

#6 Nobody watches more television per week (28 hours) than Americans do.  Although to be honest, people living in the UK are tied with us.

#7 The United States leads the world in credit card fraud.

#8 The United States has the highest percentage of one person households on the entire planet.

#9 The United States has the highest divorce rate in the world by a good margin.

#10 The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the world by far.

#11 There are more school shootings in America than anywhere else in the world.

#12 The United States has the highest child abuse death rate in the world.

#13 There are more “deaths by reptile” in America than anywhere else in the world.

#14 The United States has the most lawyers per capita in the entire world.

#15 The United States produces more pornography than any other nation in the world.

#16 Americans take more prescription drugs than anyone else in the world.

#17 More is spent on prescription drug advertising in America than anywhere else in the world.

#18 The percentage of women taking antidepressants in America is higher than in any other country in the world.

#19 More people have been diagnosed with mental disorders in America than anywhere else on earth.

#20 The United States has the highest rate of illegal drug use on the entire globe.

#21 There is more credit card debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#22 There is more mortgage debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#23 There is more student loan debt in America than anywhere else in the world.

#24 The United States spends more money on government schools than any other nation on earth does.

#25 U.S. citizens spend more time in school than anyone else in the world.  So why are so many of us dumb as a rock?

#26 Nobody in the world gets more plastic surgery done than Americans do.

#27 The United States leads the world in eating disorder deaths.

#28 According to nationmaster.com, the United States has the most total reported crimes in the world by far.

#29 Nobody has more airport security thugs groping women and children than America does.

#30 The United States spends much more on health care as a percentage of GDP than any other nation on the face of the earth.

#31 The United States has the most complicated tax system on the entire planet.

#32 The United States has the most laws on the entire planet.

#33 The United States spends more on the military than the next 12 nations combined, and yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.

#34 The United States has the most foreign military bases in the world by far.

#35 The United States exports more arms to other countries than anyone else in the world.

#36 Americans spend more time sitting in traffic than anyone else in the world.

#37 Americans spend more money on elections than anyone else does in the world by a very wide margin.

#38 Every single year, the United States has the largest trade deficit in the world by far.

#39 The U.S. government wastes more money than any other government on earth does.

#40 The United States has accumulated the biggest mountain of government debt in the history of the world.

So is the USA #1?

Unfortunately, the answer way too often is yes.

The goal of this list of embarrassing things is not to trash America.

Rather, the goal is to wake Americans up and to get them to realize what has happened to us.

We should be deeply humbled and embarrassed as a nation.  We were once the best in the world and the envy of the entire globe, but now the whole world is laughing at us.

America is supposed to be a beacon of liberty, freedom and prosperity for the entire planet.

Instead, we are rapidly turning into a horror show.

Wake up America.  The condition of our country is absolutely shameful, and every single day it gets even worse.

Please share this list with as many people as you can.  The American people need a massive wake up call, and it is up to those of us that are awake to share the truth while we still can.

Mexican Official: CIA ‘Manages’ Drug Trade

Mexican Official: CIA ‘Manages’ Drug Trade

Juarez, Mexico– The US Central Intelligence Agency and other international security forces “don’t fight drug traffickers”, a spokesman for the Chihuahua state government in northern Mexico has told Al Jazeera, instead “they try to manage the drug trade”.Allegations about official complicity in the drug business are nothing new when they come from activists, professors, campaigners or even former officials. However, an official spokesman for the authorities in one of Mexico’s most violent states – one which directly borders Texas – going on the record with such accusations is unique.

“It’s like pest control companies, they only control,” Guillermo Terrazas Villanueva, the Chihuahua spokesman, told Al Jazeera last month at his office in Juarez. “If you finish off the pests, you are out of a job. If they finish the drug business, they finish their jobs.”

A spokesman for the CIA in Washington wouldn’t comment on the accusations directly, instead he referred Al Jazeera to an official website.

Accusations are ‘baloney’

Villanueva is not a high ranking official and his views do not represent Mexico’s foreign policy establishment. Other more senior officials in Chihuahua State, including the mayor of Juarez, dismissed the claims as “baloney”.

“I think the CIA and DEA [US Drug Enforcement Agency] are on the same side as us in fighting drug gangs,” Hector Murguia, the mayor of Juarez, told Al Jazeera during an interview inside his SUV. “We have excellent collaboration with the US.”

Under the Merida Initiative, the US Congress has approved more than $1.4bn in drug war aid for Mexico, providing attack helicopters, weapons and training for police and judges.

More than 55,000 people have died in drug related violence in Mexico since December 2006. Privately, residents and officials across Mexico’s political spectrum often blame the lethal cocktail of US drug consumption and the flow of high-powered weapons smuggled south of the border for causing much of the carnage.

Drug war ‘illusions’

“The war on drugs is an illusion,” Hugo Almada Mireles, professor at the Autonomous University of Juarez and author of several books, told Al Jazeera. “It’s a reason to intervene in Latin America.”

“The CIA wants to control the population; they don’t want to stop arms trafficking to Mexico, look at [Operation] Fast and Furious,” he said, referencing a botched US exercise where automatic weapons were sold to criminals in the hope that security forces could trace where the guns ended up.

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms lost track of 1,700 guns as part of the operation, including an AK-47 used in 2010 the murder of Brian Terry, a Customs and Border Protection Agent.

Blaming the gringos for Mexico’s problems has been a popular sport south of the Rio Grande ever since the Mexican-American war of the 1840s, when the US conquered most of present day California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico from its southern neighbour. But operations such as Fast and Furious show that reality can be stranger than fiction when it comes to the drug war and relations between the US and Mexico. If the case hadn’t been proven, the idea that US agents were actively putting weapons into the hands of Mexican gangsters would sound absurd to many.

‘Conspiracy theories’

“I think it’s easy to become cynical about American and other countries’ involvement in Latin America around drugs,” Kevin Sabet, a former senior adviser to the White House on drug control policy, told Al Jazeera. “Statements [accusing the CIA of managing the drug trade] should be backed up with evidence… I don’t put much stake in it.”

Villanueva’s accusations “might be a way to get some attention to his region, which is understandable but not productive or grounded in reality”, Sabet said. “We have sort of ‘been there done that’ with CIA conspiracy theories.”

In 1996, the San Jose Mercury News published Dark Alliance, a series of investigative reports linking CIA missions in Nicaragua with the explosion of crack cocaine consumption in America’s ghettos.

In order to fund Contra rebels fighting Nicaragua’s socialist government, the CIA partnered with Colombian cartels to move drugs into Los Angeles, sending profits back to Central America, the series alleged.

“There is no question in my mind that people affiliated with, or on the payroll of, the CIA were involved in drug trafficking,” US Senator John Kerry said at the time, in response to the series.

Other newspapers, including the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, slammed Dark Alliance, and the editor of the Mercury News eventually wrote that the paper had over-stated some elements in the story and made mistakes in the journalistic process, but that he stood by many of the key conclusions.

Widespread rumours

US government has neglected border corruption

“It’s true, they want to control it,” a mid-level official with the Secretariat Gobernacion in Juarez, Mexico’s equivalent to the US Department of Homeland Security, told Al Jazeera of the CIA and DEA’s policing of the drug trade. The officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said he knew the allegations to be correct, based on discussions he had with US officials working in Juarez.

Acceptance of these claims within some elements of Mexico’s government and security services shows the difficulty in pursuing effective international action against the drug trade.

Jesús Zambada Niebla, a leading trafficker from the Sinaloa cartel currently awaiting trial in Chicago, has said he was working for the US Drug Enforcement Agency during his days as a trafficker, and was promised immunity from prosecution.

“Under that agreement, the Sinaloa Cartel under the leadership of [Jesus Zambada’s] father, Ismael Zambada and ‘Chapo’ Guzmán were given carte blanche to continue to smuggle tonnes of illicit drugs… into… the United States, and were protected by the United States government from arrest and prosecution in return for providing information against rival cartels,” Zambada’s lawyers wrote as part of his defence. “Indeed, the Unites States government agents aided the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.”

The Sinaloa cartel is Mexico’s oldest and most powerful trafficking organisation, and some analysts believe security forces in the US and Mexico favour the group over its rivals.

Joaquin “El Chapo”, the cartel’s billionaire leader and one of the world’s most wanted men, escaped from a Mexican prison in 2001 by sneaking into a laundry truck – likely with collaboration from guards – further stoking rumours that leading traffickers have complicit friends in high places.

“It would be easy for the Mexican army to capture El Chapo,” Mireles said. “But this is not the objective.” He thinks the authorities on both sides of the border are happy to have El Chapo on the loose, as his cartel is easier to manage and his drug money is recycled back into the broader economy. Other analysts consider this viewpoint a conspiracy theory and blame ineptitude and low level corruption for El Chapo’s escape, rather than a broader plan from government agencies.

After an election hit by reported irregularities, Enrique Pena Nieto from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) is set to be sworn in as Mexico’s president on December 1.

He wants to open a high-level dialogue with the US about the drug war, but has said legalisation of some drugs is not an option. Some hardliners in the US worry that Nieto will make a deal with some cartels, in order to reduce violence.

“I am hopeful that he will not return to the PRI party of the past which was corrupt and had a history of turning a blind eye to the drug cartels,” said Michael McCaul, a Republican Congressman from Texas.

Regardless of what position a new administration takes in order to calm the violence and restore order, it is likely many Mexicans – including government officials such as Chihuahua spokesman Guillermo Villanueva – will believe outside forces want the drug trade to continue.

The widespread view linking the CIA to the drug trade – whether or not the allegations are true – speaks volumes about officials’ mutual mistrust amid ongoing killings and the destruction of civic life in Mexico.

“We have good soldiers and policemen,” Villanueva said. “But you won’t resolve this problem with bullets. We need education and jobs.”

The Truth Behind the Bath Salts “Epidemic”

The Truth Behind the Bath Salts “Epidemic”

After the explosion in use comes the demonization. Then the press, despite a total lack of causal evidence, parrots the outlandish accusations.

Drug scares, like the seasons, are cyclical. Here in the US, we had media firestorms over crack in the 80’s, meth in the 90’s, and prescription painkillers in the 00’s. Right on schedule, the latest demon drug that is supposedly tearing our society apart has entered stage left: bath salts.

Bath salts really just means a drug that is a combination of two stimulants—MDPV and mephedrone. Sold online and via headshops as a cheap, legal alternative to cocaine and ecstasy, mephedrone was first synthesized in 1929 while MDPV came along in 1969. Both were rediscovered in 2003 and they were perfect drugs for the Internet age—an ideal alternative to pricy illegal drugs that could be obtained legally with nothing more than a credit card and the click of a mouse.

The exact pharmacology of bath salts can vary, as compounds are constantly tweaked by chemists to stay one step ahead of the law. “Most of these substances seem to be cathinone derivatives, and as such are central nervous system stimulants that act through interruptions of dopamine, norepinephrine and—to a more limited extent—serotonin function,” explains Dr. Adi Jaffe, an addiction specialist at UCLA. While noting that actual research on these substances is in its early stages and reports are limited, Jaffe says that “at low to moderate doses the most common effects for MDPV can be thought of as meth-like: stimulation, euphoria and alertness. Mephedrone seems to act more like MDMA than meth.”

While the chemistry may change, one thing that has remained consistent is the ballooning popularity of this sector of the drug market.

After the explosion in use, the next phase of the drug scare comes in the form of demonization, and the authorities have certainly wasted no time in making some pretty wild allegations about the supposed effects of bath salts; recently we’ve heard that these drugs can causes cannibalism, a la the infamous Miami face-eater, pedophilia and evencross-dressing goat abuse.

The third part of any good drug scare happens when the press, despite a total lack of causal evidence, parrots these outlandish accusations. In the Miami cannibal case, the link between bath salts originated from a statement made by someone with no direct involvement with the case—the president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, Armando Aguilar—despite the fact that an autopsy and toxicology had yet to be performed on attacker Rudy Eugene.

In the case of Shane Shuyler, the Miami man accused of exposing himself to children while “allegedly” under the influence of bath salts, the evidence was no less hazy. The police said they found something that “appeared” to be bath salts in his wallet (i.e. an unidentified white powder). And then there was this strange quote from a detective giving evidence against Shuyler: “Upon talking to him, he made some statements to me which led me to believe that he was cooling off in a fountain by the tot-lot, because he was hot, which was consistent with ingesting bath salts.” The logic being that since bath salts cause users body temperatures to rise, then cooling off by a water fountain is evidence of bath salts use. Never mind the fact that the incident took place in June, in Miami, where the average temperature is 88.1 degrees.

After the hype comes the crackdown, which means that high-profile cases like these have created a push from both the media and law enforcement for a federal ban on the sale of bath salts.

Florida Republican Rep. Sandy Adams is one of the politicians who helped push the Combating Dangerous Synthetic Stimulants Act of 2011 through the House last December. The bill would federally ban MDPV and mephedrone, the two chemicals found in bath salts, as well as outlawing dozens of other chemicals found in synthetic drugs. The reasoning? “Looking at the Miami incident, we’ve seen people do some very bizarre acts on bath salts,” Adams told the U.S. News and World Report. If he gets his way, bath salts would be categorized alongside heroin and LSD.

So can bath salts really cause ordinary normal people to cannibalize strangers, expose themselves to children, or murder goats? And if they can, why on earth would anybody take them? A drug that has been described variously as “super powered LSD” and “PCP on crack” seems like a confusing proposition. So which is it?

“The reason for the contrasting descriptions is most likely the small but very significant difference in the specific chemicals involved,” says Dr. Jaffe. “Meth and ecstasy are very close chemical cousins but obviously cause very different effects for the user; the same is true here.”

To better get a handle of what is happening here in the US, I looked toward the United Kingdom, which has recently been through a similar cycle of shock horror media coverage of the “bath salt epidemic,” followed by a rush to ban. Bath salts were known under various aliases in the UK, including M-Kat, Meow-Meow and Bubbles, so for the sake of clarity, I’m going to use their chemical name of the most common compound: mephedrone.

“The issues in the US and UK are very similar, except that, as in many things, the US hype is even more over the top than that in the UK,” says Danny Kushlick, founder of the Transform Drug Policy Foundation, a charitable think tank that attempts to draw public attention to the fact that drug prohibition is the major cause of drug-related harm. “I mean, we never got so far as cannibalism.”

Yet at its height, the mephedrone scare in the UK was still pretty lurid; according to some of the coverage, it was linked to overdose, patricide and at least one case of self scrotum tearing. Many of these stories would later be disproved (the scrotum story, unsurprisingly was revealed as a hoax) and the two deaths that started the whole media scare—that of Louis Wainwright, 18, and Nicholas Smith, 19—turned out to be totally unrelated to the use of the drug. By the time the toxicology report on Wainwright and Smith had been published, however, it was too late: the drug had been banned a month earlier by the UK parliament, after a one-hour debate and no vote on the matter.

Kushlick, who is on the council of the International Harm Reduction Association, and is a member of the British Society of Criminology’s Advisory Council, was a vocal opponent of the rush to ban mephedrone in the UK. In the months following the ban, he saw harm actually increase and not reduce because, he said, “when mephedrone was banned, the price increased and it was sold not by legitimate retailers but by non-tax paying unregulated dealers. It was also immediately replaced by a more potent compound and traded as Ivory Wave, which users had little experience with so they were more likely to get into trouble.”

These sentiments are echoed by Dr. Fiona Measham, a senior lecturer on Criminology at Lancaster University and the author of several books on drug use in young people. Her groundbreaking research into the use of mephedrone in the UK has provided some of the only hysteria-free data into mephedrone and the people who use it. Her paper, “Tweaking, Bombing, Dabbing and Stockpiling; the emergence of mephedrone and the Perversity of prohibition” (2010 Measham, et al), is the definitive account of the UK’s experience with the drug from the perspective of the people who actually use it.

“The government might claim that the ban was successful because mephedrone use and deaths have fallen,” says Measham, “but for me the question to ask is: what are users taking instead? In the UK, the rise and fall of mephedrone in 2009 and 2010 tracked the fall and now rise in the purity of cocaine, ecstasy pills and MDMA powder. [Since the ban], pills are back, big time, and the legal highs—whether now banned or not—just don’t compete for most recreational users.”

Despite the hazy evidence that it would have any effect at all on the level of drug use among young people, a federal ban is something that many in politics and law enforcement are in favor of here in the States. All it really seems guaranteed to do is drive up prices, lower purity and criminalize young people who continue to use the drug. At best, the use of the drug might be reduced as users switch over wholesale to different drugs. But in the politics of the drug war, no one ever let the truth get in the way of an expansion of hostilities. The police, Drug Enforcement Agency and court system will always welcome a new front in the war.

The big motivation, as always, is money. Local authorities want more money to “fight the war on drugs” even if they are fighting against a phantom menace. Already there are dark rumblings from the cops about needing more resources to fight against this army of bath salts crazed cannibals who are seemingly about to smash down your door and devour your children.

“The cities are deeply involved [in banning synthetic drugs] because the state can’t seem to get on top of it,” Pembroke Pines Commissioner Angelo Castillo said in an illuminating interview with Inquisitir.com. “We see cities jumping in to handle it because the state isn’t. Otherwise people die and people’s faces get chewed off.” Castillo added, “This is the next horizon in the war on drugs and we need to gear up and deal with it.”

Kushlick, who has seen firsthand the lack of effect that “gearing up to deal with it” has had on levels of use, suggests a more pragmatic approach. “The wiser move would have been to leave meph on the market and monitor its effect in order to ascertain its costs and benefits,” he tells me. “We know from experience that the Iron Law of Prohibition means that milder drugs will be replaced by more potent ones. That’s what happened under alcohol prohibition in the US as bootlegged spirits replaced beer. Conducting research on its effects and how people were using it could have been used to provide information to current and potential new users.”

The bottom line is this: more and more new users are trying bath salts, at least in part because of the attention thrust on the drug by the hysterical press coverage. When they discover that it doesn’t cause them to chew off peoples’ faces or tear off their own genitals, then they are more inclined to ignore all warnings about these drugs’ potential dangers. Kushlick’s advice to users is less likely to get the press excited but more likely to reduce harm. “As with any drug, if you are not used to using meph, you should take a small amount to assess its effects on you as an individual,” he says. “Always take new drugs with someone who is an experienced and trusted friend. Just because you have a good effect from the dose you’ve taken, do not assume that you can double the fun by doubling the dose.”

10 Reasons Why Reality Is A Collective Dream

10 Reasons Why Reality Is A Collective Dream

The government beast to the people: sleep now, little child. Everything is going to be alright. Mommy and I are not going to let anyone hurt you.

1. The Western media is keeping mainstream Western consciousness in a state of sleep. It is doing this in order to suppress public awareness of massive crimes against humanity by financial, media, and political leaders in the U.S., England, and Israel.

2. Time is speeding up, and leaving little time for reflection and thinking. The world is changing at a pace that exceeds our ability to grasp what the changes mean for us as individuals and for our collective destiny as a species. The overwhelming sense of lost time is too much to bear for a lot of people, so they get depressed, disengage from the real world, and escape into their fantasy worlds.

3. Everything we are led to believe about official reality and official history by society’s institutions is a lie. A sense of meaning to our lives has been lost, and we are desperately looking for answers. Some of us get trapped in the maze of information, and give up our personal quest for understanding. And some of us continue to slog on through the darkness, night in, night out, because we are never satisfied with our current level of knowledge.

4. On 9/11, we witnessed the Orwellian leaders of the U.S. and Israel destroy reality and reason, and replace them with illusion and irrationality. Their political use of terrorism to mentally condition the people of the West into believing that the threat of terrorism demands their vigilance and sacrifice to the state has created societies of sheep that instinctively react against truth-telling and anti-conformist speech.

5. The politicization of news has created a culture of disinformation, distraction, and deception. 24-hour “News” is the most dangerous and lethal thing in the world. Television is a cancer on the mind. Since 9/11, television has been utilized as an instrument of psychological warfare against the people in America, Canada, and other Western countries.

6. Esoteric-minded individuals in government, media, secret societies, and Hollywood are pursuing a secret political and religious agenda. Deception and secrecy are instrumental to their demonic mission. Their commitment to suppressing historical facts and objective reality is total and absolute.

7. Movies are more than entertainment, they are a subversive and successful form of mass programming. Hollywood is a dream factory, and its dreams become reference points for people, media, and politicians. On 9/11, responders and survivors said that they felt like they were in a movie. There are so many more examples of this social, cultural, and psychological phenomenon.

8. Seeing life as a dream is a trick of the mind. For the criminals of the world, especially those who control governments and financial companies, being separated from reality allows them to engage in illegal activities with an exaggerated sense of confidence. The state terrorists who did 9/11 feel untouchable because their absurd lie has been mindlessly accepted as an objective fact by the majority of the world, rather than as an evil deception. They are the masters of reality, and they know it, which is why they are not afraid to stage another false flag event in the West to justify another criminal war.

9. Consensus reality under a system of dictatorship is reached at through the use of terror and systematic propaganda. How do we arrive at a consensus on public policy and government spending programs in a democracy? Idealistically, through intense debate, political dialogue, public education, and public discussion. But that is not what happened in the days and weeks after 9/11.

Western nations arrived at a consensus about the threat of terrorism after the shadow governments of the United States and Israel committed the biggest act of terror in history. The consensus reality we have lived under since 9/11 is a collective spell, and a long nightmare. The social fruits of this collective spell are death, poverty, and misery.

The propagandists who work for Washington, London, and Tel Aviv are masters at devising an “international consensus” on political and military objectives, whether in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Syria, or Iran. But they don’t use logic and reason to win over the world, instead, they use big lies and false flag terrorism to intimidate nations into accepting their twisted version of reality.

10. Regimes of terror and fraud create a collective dream state to limit the consciousness of the people so they do not wake up and realize the magnitude of the crimes that have been committed against them while they slept. The propagandists of totalitarian regimes of terror are constantly engaged in a war on collective memory. Their target is the collective psyche of the society. And they use all kinds of psychological, military, and scientific techniques to realize their goal of creating a dispirited, unconscious, ignorant, fearful, and psychologically traumatized population.

But there is a way out of our collective nightmare. We can reject the terror-based consensus reality that has been constructed by the tricksters behind the 9/11 events. We can dream a new dream.

Unbelievable Rant on MSNBC! Reporter CRACKS & Spews TRUTH!

Unbelievable Rant on MSNBC! Reporter CRACKS & Spews TRUTH!

Dylan Ratigan is mad as hell and he isn’t going to take it anymore. While hosting a discussion on the seemingly endemic problems that the U.S. political process is enduring — specifically how it relates to responsibly fiscal policy — the MSNBC host blew a gasket over what he sees as the real mathematical problem at play. The impassioned diatribe was delivered in the context of the recent credit downgrade and market volatility, and Ratigan placed equal blame on both Republicans and Democrats, but mostly argued about the entire integrated system, which included banking, trade and taxation.

It’s a rare moment to see a cable news host speak so passionately, and this is about as entertainingly unhinged as you will ever want to see. While I encourage you to watch the entire clip, the essence of his message can best be explained in this particular part (transcript via):

We’ve got a real problem…this is a mathematical fact. Tens of trillions of dollars are being extracted from the United States of America. Democrats aren’t doing it, Republicans aren’t doing it, an entire integrated system, banking, trade and taxation, created by both parties over a period of two decades is at work on our entire country right now.

At one point Ratigan became self-aware enough to recognize that he’d lost his temper, before explaining the source of his frustration by saying “I’ve been coming on TV for three years doing this, and the fact of the matter is, that there’s a refusal on both the Democratic and the Republican side of the aisle to acknowledge the mathematical problem.”
